SOUTHWELL RACECOURSE 2-10 Race Date 04/04/17 | Horse Racing

SOUTHWELL RACECOURSE FORM

Specialv

Specialv is a 4yo from the Brian Ellison stable who has some average form which means that it good enough to fill one of the places in this 6f race which taking part here at Southwell.

This is a class 5 race and it helps to know that a runner has form when running in these type of events and with Specialv it does have some suitable outings over the last twelve months on which to make a decision. One of these races in which it put in a typical but has to be said undistinguished run was at Windsor when finishing 1st but as I said that form would be classed as ordinary.

Today’s jockey is Ben Curtis who it has to be said is capable in these types of races but on a left handed course their recent form is only average with a strike rate of 12%.

One of the runners who looks to only have moderate or average form but is the type that could run well and therefore may be of interest if the main contenders put in a below par effort.

Crosse Fire

Crosse Fire is a 5yo who looks to have some fine form for this Handicap race and today is ridden by Kieran O’Neill.

Weight can play its part much the same as other factors and having a horse with the right weight makes the form worthy, this is what we have with this runner a splendid performance on the AW when it carried 09-07 to finish 1st. Some may say that the form is not as new as others in the race but it does show it is adept at carrying this sort of weight.

An accomplished looking runner who looks capable of landing a race like this, it has the form and ratings suggest that its not to far from the top which all adds up to make this a worthy entrant.

Appleberry

Appleberry is a 5yo from the Michael Appleby stable who has some average form which means that it good enough to fill one of the places in this 6f race which taking part here at Southwell.

Intermediate form over the last twelve months is how things appear to be for Appleberry who is a 5yo out of the sire by the name Approve, or this is how things look when taking par in Handicap races. Did put in a tolerable run at Nottingham on the 12/10/2016 when ridden by Andrew Mullen but the word average does spring to mind.

Fitting of headgear is normally done to help the runner try and get the job done but if the jockey such as Alistair Rawlinson has only a recent strike rate of 12% when ridding horses wearing a type of head covering it does not inspire confidence, after all its only a standard sort of success rate.

This runner could very well have what is known as bog standard form and winners tend to be a shade better thought of than that but its by no means totally out of it but would appear to need a bit of luck to win here today.

Recent Form – Trainer Below Average – Jockey Above Average

Big Amigo

Big Amigo is a 4yo from the Daniel Mark Loughnane stable who has some unproductive form and does not look to be up to this 6f race which taking part here at Southwell.

For this runner I think its best to look at its results for the last twelve month to try and make a case for backing it. Finished 1st in a race that took place on the 02/01/2017 which was a Handicap race, but with that said the form still looks below average.

With this race taking part at Southwell we can take note of the trainers below par recent strike rate of only 4% when having runners that take part on a left handed course.

Does not look to be one of the fancied runners on the form which has come to light and for all intense and purpose Big Amigo would be classed as having a below average chance.

Recent Form – Trainer Average – Jockey Above Average

Spiraea

Spiraea is a 7yo from the Ivan Furtado stable who has some unproductive form and does not look to be up to this 6f race which taking part here at Southwell.

Does not have one of the highest Jadwiz ratings in this race and would possible be seen as more of an each way chance based on form that was on display when running in a Handicap race on the 22/05/2014 when finishing 1st.

If we apply a weight range to the 09-05 this runner is set to carry, example a few pounds either way, we can check the sires recent record with its offspring which shows an unproductive 5% strike rate.

The overall form for Spiraea looks to be unproductive or insufficient for a race like this and there are plenty of other runners to choose from.

Recent Form – Trainer Above Average – Jockey Below Average

Treaty Of Rome

Treaty Of Rome is a 5yo from the Derek Shaw stable who looks to have an excellent chance on form and ratings.

Exemplary recent form and a common factor could be the key to this race and one of the runners which has both of these qualities would be Treaty Of Rome who is a Gelding out of the sire by the name of War Front. Why do I say this well it ran at Southwell not so long back and finished 1st and the common factor is that Tony Hamilton rode it that day and is set to put in another top-notch display.

One of the things I noticed about this runner was that the sires offspring have shown a recent benefit from running with this type of headgear, stats are currently showing a 50% strike rate.

Would appear to have an outstanding chance is this race and form suggests a bet could very well be in order for this runner who looks first rate.

L C Saloon

L C Saloon is a 4yo from the David C Griffiths stable who has some unproductive form and does not look to be up to this 6f race which taking part here at Southwell.

Another runner who’s form does not seem to be good enough for this race and the only good news would be its finishing position in a race that took place at Thirsk when it carried 09-05 to finish 1st. This is a similar sort of weight that it is set to carry today so could possible run a nice race.

Results for this trainer over the last twelve months is inferior to others when looking at the stats for Handicap races which means the strike rate of 5% looks to be dime-a-dozen.

Could not be classed has having a great chance of taking the winners prize back to the trainers stable and other better candidate can easily be found.

Goosen Maverick

Goosen Maverick is a 6yo from the Grant Cann stable who has some unproductive form and does not look to be up to this 24f race which taking part here at Kempton.

Some detrimental form has been shown over the last twelve months when a No Headgear has been fitted and one of those was when unplaced at Exeter when ridden by David Noonan and therefore its form is considered to be bush-league.

We know Goosen Maverick is set to carry 10-12 but over the last twelve months the trainers runners when carrying around this weight have only prevailed 6% of the time which is off putting.

Overall form for this runner looks to be insufficient and substandard for a race like this and the best I feel it could do would be to possible be reach a place but its odds would need to be at least double figures.
